Ronen Pomegranate Beer from the Srigim Brewery

The pomegranate fruit has a long connection with Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year, celebrated in the fall.  There are several reasons, but those are for some other time.  What's important now is that the Ronen Brewery on Moshav Srigim has launched a Pomegranate Beer especially for this holiday season.  It is made with natural fruit and has an ABV of 5.5%.  The label could have used a better proofreader, because the list of ingredients doesn't include pomegranate!  It does, however, list stevia, a natural sugar substitute but not fermentable.

Be that as it may, Pomegranate Beer pours out a slightly hazy, rosy pink with a thin pink head and light carbonation.  It smells like sour fruit, grass and bubble gum.  With further sniffing, some of the pomegranate comes through.

I thought the taste was delicious: Lots of pomegranate now, along with berry-fruitiness.  The taste is mid-bitter and slightly sour, like sour fruit candy.  But then the sourness fades into sweetness.  Very interesting.  It was better by far than all the other pomegranate beers I've tasted.
